Harvest to Habitat: Reflections on a Season of Change

October has arrived, and with it the quiet hum of change: the gardens have yielded, the animals are settling toward winter, and the fields wear autumn’s golden glow. Yet Crown Point is far from resting. Over the past few weeks, we’ve celebrated, taught, and grown in ways that remind me daily why this place matters.

Thanks to your support, we welcomed over 1,200 people to our Abilities Inclusive Fall Festival on October 4th, launched our fall suite of educational programs, and harvested more than 12,000 pounds of food this year to help support our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program, Howe Meadow Farmers Market, and local food partners. We also continue to shape plans for our year-round greenhouse and learning space, which will allow us to grow and gather together in every season.

Last week, a group of Revere High School students knelt in the gardens, tucking cover crop seeds into freshly turned soil and nibbling on the season’s harvest as they worked. Watching them laugh, taste, and plant hope into the ground was a reminder of what we cultivate here—connection, curiosity, and care that extend far beyond the farm.

As we move from harvest to habitat, I’m drawn to the simple beauty of letting the land rest. When we leave fallen leaves where they fall—or gently rake them into garden beds—we create a natural winter blanket: shelter for pollinators, protection for soil life, and nourishment for spring growth. It’s a quiet act of reciprocity, giving back to the earth that sustains us.

And while the land settles in, our community keeps gathering. I invite you to join us on November 8 for our Wine Tasting Dinner, an evening of local flavor, friendship, and connection. Tickets are limited, and we’d love to share this warm celebration with you.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Because of your hands, your heart, and your commitment, Crown Point doesn’t just endure—it flourishes.

Fun on the Farm—A Joyful Fall Harvest Celebration

Adults and children of all ages and abilities take part in fall festival activities like apple cider press, hayrides, face painting and lawn games at Crown Point for Fun on the Farm.

What a day! Our Fun on the Farm: An Ability Inclusive Fall Harvest Festival, held in collaboration with our wonderful partners at Farming With Friends, was a huge success—drawing over 1,200 guests to Crown Point for a day filled with smiles, sunshine, and community spirit.

The weather couldn’t have been better, and every corner of the farm was alive with laughter and activity. Families enjoyed hayrides, meeting the animals, exploring the pumpkin patch, and dancing along to a live performance of “Thriller.” The Sensory Bus, corn pit, and lawn games were crowd favorites, along with our lineup of local vendors, fresh-pressed apple cider, and delicious food trucks that kept everyone happily fueled for a full day of fall fun.

Most importantly, the event reflected what Crown Point and Farming With Friends do best—bringing people of all abilities together to connect, celebrate, and experience the joy of the season.

A heartfelt thank-you to all our volunteers, vendors, sponsors, and community partners who made this incredible day possible. We’re already looking forward to next year’s celebration!
